As lecturer at the University of Catania, he previously taught Anthropology of the Mediterranean, Introduction to Cultural anthropology and Medical anthropology (2019-2022). He also taught Anthropology of conflict and violence at the University of Pisa (2017-2019).

Research

Since 2010, he has been working on memories of student movements and leftist organizations affected by political violence in the 1970s and 1980s. In this respect, he has carried out extended ethnographic fieldwork in Uruguay and Turkey on the politics of memory of military dictatorships and the social construction of collective traumas. His research interests focus on the political and cultural configuration of collective remembering and feelings of moral outrage, the social nature of biographical memories, the cultural dimension of painful memories and the ways in which the latter are conveyed onto next generations. He has also investigated new social movements and movements of protests in Turkey.

In 2020, he started a new research field on urban transformations, rearrangements of the past and new social imaginaries of future in the late-industrial context of Gela in Sicily. He is co-PI of the research project “QUASI-RUINS: Place, nostalgia and future in late-industrial Italian towns”.
